Kaixo friends,

I was born and grew up in a complete spanish environ. I learnt basque when I was 17 - 19 years old, it was a very great and enjoyable experience for me, I enjoy it right now (and today I am 31 years old!!!). I hope you to enjoy the learning of this language as I did. This language could be described as Miracle Language because it is more than 3000 years old and today remains alive (and growing up) in western Europe.

When I started this course in spanish (2001st year) I thought that only people who live in Basque Country could be interested in, but a short time after i realised that Basque Country has 8 provinces, the 7 you probably know (Bizkaia, Araba, Gipuzkoa, Nafarroa, Behe Nafarroa, Lapurdi and Zuberoa) and undoubtedly, the 8th which is composed by all the people who live abroad and feel love for the Basque culture (at present I also live in the 8th province, in Barcelona to be precise).

Euskal Herria or Basque Country (territory which has 7 provinces and the Basque language is present from the stone age untill today) is a land with a lot of places to see, feel, live and love. Many of these places will excite you (this is what happens with me), and people will always apreciate you are learning basque, even if you are only able to say a few words (this is the experience I lived).

Guest Book

I noticed with the spanish version of this course that a lot of people download it from a lot countries, even non spanish speaker countries. So I think that you will be able to get in touch with people of your same country / state who have similar interests about the Basque Language and the Basque Culture. In order to get in touch with anybody else, please fill the City, Country and e-mail fields.

This Guest Book can also be used as a tool for solving doubts, and maybe to practise some Basque!!!

This course was published in spanish in 2001. I have updated it in 2009 (started to update it in 2008) with a new host, a .com domain and this new english version. I celebrate that people like you are interested in, and this is the reason I update it. Anyway I have to pay the host and the domain, and want to improve on the product, a multimedia free CD that anyone could download should be the dream, and if anytime this objective would be reached, then the excess would be invested in Basque culture (this is the sense of this web site). The course is completely free in order to be available for everybody but it and its possible expansion requires some funds, this is the reason donations are welcome.

March 2009, Dundee, Scotland

Best regards and have courage with the Basque Culture!!!

http://www.messageinabottle.cjb.net/; in summer 2005 I found a bottle with a message in a big and lonely beach of Portugal (near to the Peniche city). In this web site I ask for help to translate the message and try to get in touch with the author of this message. You can have a look at it....
